JACK CROSSING

Jack Crossing, a graphic designer works on a wide rage of projects that involves album covers and film posters. As his work is spread so widely he does not have one set theme. His work can go from landscape to portrait and some more abstract than others. This artist links in with my work as the more abstract pieces he has done links the more experimental photos I have been doing my self and combined them with portraits.

In this piece of his work, album cover is more abstract than some of his other piece. This is a portrait piece; the model of the photo has a simple, plain expression on his. Over this portrait is an overlay of what looks like an oil spill. This oil has been placed over the photo to almost come from the subject’s eye out the back of the head but still showing half of the subjects face. This piece is very dull. With in the oil spill the colours have a metallic shine and contrasts well with the black ground. The pattern with in the oil spill is random and uncontrollable, this could suggest that the subject who comes across plain and emotionless cannot control his thoughts and emotions with the oil would represent.

On the part of the face, which is visible, it looks like harsh lightening has been used due to this section being brighter than the rest, as his head has been placed to be facing a certain way it has created a shadow on the subjects neck and shoulder.

Like the first piece of his work this is also portrait and an album cover. Unlike the first piece which is mainly a face this piece is a full body portrait. This piece is also abstract like the first but instead of something taking over the face this one has had sections removed and shifted, these pieces that have been moved still are 3D and look like they could be slotted back into place. Where the eyes would be on the models face has been removed completely from the piece. The left side of the body has a shadow on it and the right side in the light, this could suggest that she is unsure on her emotions or identity which could also link into why the eyes have been removed. Unlike the first piece where the oil spill looks random  in this piece the moved parts look as if the have a set place this could suggest that she is going to be putting her self together piece by piece as the moved sections could slide back into the original place.
