Lee Kirby

Lee Kirby is a photographer who focuses mainly on music and portraits. Kirby explores modern technologies within his work and experiments with different ways of working. He uses contemporary dancers to express fluid movements, creating a moment of collaborative beauty between photography and dance.

This piece by Kirby contains a mixture of vibrant colours. Although the technique for producing this image is unknown, I would be led to believe that the image on the subjects body has been projected, which is something I intend on exploring. The black back drop makes the vibrant colours harsher and more florescent. Looking at this image in further detail you can see that the mans arm furthest away from the camera looks faded and blurred more than the rest of the subject almost as the subject is starting to fade away. The bright colours on the subject could be suggesting the mans life or energy so as the subject has started to fade could suggest he/she s a person also is. The face of the subject is not clear and as a mixture of colours has been placed over the body the subjects sexuality is also no clear.

In this next image unlike the first you it is clear that this subject has had a projection onto the body. Also this piece seems to have an actual photograph projected whereas the other piece is more abstract. Similarly to other piece certain aspects are blurred thus could be showing movement of the subjects. The face of the subjects face has not been blurred out unlike the last piece so you are able to see the sex of the subject. The photo which has been projected looks like a urban landscape so the movement of the subject could represent the movement of the city, the develop over years or the people who live in the city. The colours used in this piece are duller than those used in this other piece but still the black drop has been used.
