Linden Gledhill

Linden Gledhill, an artist that explores the physical world at different image scales and fragments of time. Gledhill is educated in science which lead into use the advance microscopy and high speed equipment. By using this technology he captures unexpected images which reveal physical beauty which surrounds us.Gledhill’s Paint Splash collection shows intricate shapes made from water based paint, which is ejected by sound from a speaker. He was able to capture the action shots using flash units which sound triggered.

In this image you are able to see each individual colour paint used but also how they are entwining and mixing with each other as the sound . At first glance it is not clear how it has been taken. This factor makes the photo more intriguing as you want to know how he has been able to capture this split second of the paint jumping. By using a black ground the vibrant paint which has used contrast more. You are able to see each individual coloured paint used but also you can see where they are beginning to mix together. As there is a reflection of the paint splash says that this was either done on a mirrored surface or on water, again because you do not know how exactly this has been done gives the piece some mystery to it.

Again in this piece you are able to see the separate colours used and the mixture of the colours. Unlike this first piece this one has more of a structure to it, it almost looks like a cage of colour for the one strand in the middle. Like the first piece this one also has a black ground although this one has emerged from a red liquid rather than clear with a reflection. The black backdrop again makes the vibrant colours sharp and contrast well. The bottom of the paint plash begins with yellow and turns into orange as you go up, almost like fire, but this shows how the colours are mixing together.
